The Director of Landscape Architecture leads in design and documentation of planning and landscape architectural projects and is responsible for achieving quality design in Landscape Architecture which includes the production of complete, accurate, well-coordinated documents, achieving client goals and managing profitability. Business Development is a requirement for success in this role.


  • Registered Landscape Architect
  • AICP Certified
  • 10 or more years progressive, professional experience
  • Entrepreneurial leadership and business development skills
  • Able to lead and direct a design team
  • Strong graphic and design skills                                                                                     
  • Strong CD skills                                                                                     
  • LEED accreditation preferred


Specific responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

Adhere to both Cooper Carry and the Clients guidelines and meet deadlines for each project.

Maintain knowledge of Cooper Carry projects and resources.

Take the lead in exploring and documenting site analysis and design alternatives, creating presentation drawings, and preparing innovative design solutions. 

Direct design presentations and the exploration of new presentation methods.

Develop presentation drawings. 

Guide the preparation of construction documents that conform to office standards, the design intent, and project budget.                        

Oversee the selection of project related material palettes such as plant materials hardscape materials, site furnishings, etc. 

Guide Landscape Architects and Designers in their assigned tasks and professional skill development.

Guide and participate in employee recruitment, including interviews and resume review. 

Lead project team during construction phase services.

Pursue leads for potential project opportunities.

Lead and review scope and fee proposals with Project Manager.

Communicate firm values and goals to staff.

Maintain base registrations, necessary state registrations and professional affiliations

Communicate methods to improve "project process" to project team leadership.

Contribute as required to the overall quality and success of the project, studio and firm.

Lead professional development and performance management efforts for the studio.


Directly supervises Designers and Landscape Architects to include interviewing, hiring, and training; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; and aiding in problem resolution.

Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. 

Travel as commensurate with a Director-level position with business development and project leadership responsibilities.
